Transfers between your own cards: expense or move

Why a transfer between your own accounts is neither an expense nor income — and how not to break the budget and reports.

The myth “transfer = spend” inflates expenses and breaks the budget. When you moved money from card to card that was already yours, the family’s wealth did not change — only *where* it sits changed.

The out / in pair

In tracking a transfer is a linked pair: debit from one wallet and credit to another in one operation. Not two independent “expense” and “income.”

Same accounts

A transfer “to itself” is meaningless and blocked. Choose different wallets for “From” and “To.”

Different currencies and FX

If currencies differ, you need explicit conversion at the rate on the date. More: Tracking in multiple currencies.

CTA

Try a transfer in the Mini App: two zones “From” and “To,” without logging it as an expense.
