Tracking in BYN and a second currency: rates without chaos in your head

How to track expenses in multiple currencies: amount as on the receipt, base currency, rate on the transaction date. No “floating” magic.

If life has at least one foreign-currency card, a trip, freelance in USD/EUR, or neighboring BYN and RUB, a “single shared balance in your head” quickly lies. A calm rule: write as you paid; the meaning of totals is in the base currency.

Ladno is manual tracking in a Telegram Mini App: each wallet has its own currency; rates and conversion are computed on the server in integer minor units (kopecks/cents), without float “by eye.” This is not a bank exchange desk.

Four rules that do not break a trip

  1. Amount in the payment currency, as on the receipt or in the bank push
  2. One base currency for month totals — usually the main income currency
  3. Rate on the transaction date, not “when you remembered on Sunday”
  4. Store the original amount and currency; conversion to base is a presentation

Wallets, not one pile

Create separate wallets: “BYN card,” “PLN cash,” “USD freelance.” A transfer between your own accounts is a move, not an expense and not income. If currencies differ, conversion must be explicit: how much was debited there, how much credited here, which rate was fixed.

In the product, a transfer between different currencies relies on a server quote; history shows the FX trail of the transaction.

What to watch in reports and history

Budgets and multi-currency

A monthly “Food 800 BYN” limit makes sense in the base of the home budget. Spends from a foreign-currency wallet should enter the same logic via conversion on the date. If the trip is short, sometimes it is more honest to create a separate “Vacation” category.

Open @ladnomoneybot, create a wallet in the needed currency, and log an expense “as on the receipt.” In history check that the original and the conversion read without surprises.
